Maura Hehir

Maura Hehir is a college senior studying creative nonfiction writing at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study and she lives in Astoria, Queens. Growing up in Hudson County, NJ, across the river from Manhattan, her first passion was art, but she eventually realized she was better at writing. Hence, writing about the arts is what she loves most. She blogs for The Sexy Feminist, and her work has also been featured at the online culture magazines, Thought Catalog and New York Pudding. When she's not writing, she works a number of odd jobs in various creative fields: she is the marketing and design assistant at the NYU Bookstore, she works for the fashion programming and news company Videofashion, and she does odds and ends for two vintage clothing and antique dealers. For the last year she has somehow found time to volunteer for New York Cares, starting and teaching a creative writing class to kids ages 8-13 in Harlem. She still draws and crafts when coming up with the right word or phrase hurts her brain too much and she needs to wind down.
