GALO: The movie is based off the second book in V.C. Andrews’ Dollanganger series. Did you read the book beforehand to prepare?

WN: As I mentioned earlier, the turnaround was so fast. I didn’t have a chance to read them. We were in pre-production; I was working on my character myself before shooting. Unfortunately, I did not have time to read the books beforehand.

GALO: Lifetime is going to release a couple more sequels in the near future. Do you plan on reading the books anytime soon?

WN: Yeah, I definitely want to read them and seek out what it’s all about. I’m actually going on vacation pretty soon with my family, and I was hoping to read Petals on the Wind while I was out of town.

GALO: Moving away from Petals on the Wind, I found that you haven’t been in the acting business for very long. Could you talk to me a little bit about your acting background and getting cast in your first project?

WN: Yeah, I haven’t been at this very long. I’ve been very fortunate and very blessed throughout my whole career. I was introduced to my manager while I was still in school. I moved out and met up with an agent, who’s my current agent. I ended up booking Hollywood Heights, maybe the fourth or fifth audition I went on. Since then, I’ve really been working hard in class. I don’t follow a specific technique. I’ve been to several different classes out here in L.A., Penny Meisner, more personal stuff, some method stuff. I’m kind of all over the place, but I really just try to use my imagination as much as I can. I use personal experience too, so I really just do pretty much everything I can, depending on what type of character I’m playing.

GALO: You had a two-episode guest stint on season four of Pretty Little Liars. The show is very popular and has a really big cult following. People are obsessed with this show. From what I understand, the character you played — Nigel Wright — was a suspect in a mysterious fire. What’s the deal with that character and his supposed dark side?

WN: I wish I knew. [Nigel] was introduced to some bad people there, and yeah, I guess they just found me out [laughs]. It happened so fast, in just two episodes. I was expecting [Nigel] to come back, but he got in a fight. I expected to come back and clear some more things up, but I just never came back after I ran away. So, I wish I could tell you more about it.

GALO: So there’s no chance Nigel will reappear in season five?

WN: I would love to reappear in season five. I haven’t gotten a call to come back yet, but I definitely would if they ever wanted to bring me back and clear up some of those mysteries for me. It keeps me up at night.

GALO: Are you a fan of PLL yourself?

WN: Yeah, I really do like Pretty Little Liars. It’s fun. I don’t watch it as consistently, but I remember I watched, I think, the first season, before going in and auditioning for that particular role. And yeah, it’s kind of addictive. I think I watched the entire season in about four or five days, so it’s a lot of fun. My favorite character is Nigel Wright, of course [laughs].

GALO: Another TV appearance you had was on the ABC show Mistresses. On IMDb, it reads you played the “Hot Naked Guy.” What was the casting call for that role like?

WN: Oh my goodness. That was kind of an interesting casting call. I guess if you see it, I’m not just a hot naked guy running around. I do have lines. I’m essentially just a man of foray with one of the main characters. I’m just a guy she’s going around with. For the casting call, they told me blond surfer something or other. So I was like, “oh yeah, I can do that.” I went in and auditioned for it, and they called me and they were like, “OK, yeah, so you’re gonna be a hot naked guy.” And I’m like, “what? No, that’s not what I auditioned for.” Essentially, I wasn’t really naked. I was just in a towel, getting out of the shower. It was a funny little part and I enjoyed it. It was one of my first roles.

GALO: In the future, if you could play any role, what would it be – superhero, badass villain?

WN: [Laughs] I’ve always found darker characters to be a little bit more interesting. However, I’m not often cast as the villain. I’m cast as the good guy or the hero. Those are the parts I’ve been going out for. I love huge epic movies; I like period pieces as well — Petals on the Wind was a lot of fun for me to act, because that was early ’70s — and Westerns, too. I always loved Westerns growing up. I just want to do it all. My head’s all over the place. You got me so excited with this question. I love science fiction, too. So, something like Cowboys & Aliens. That would be the perfect world. It would be Western and have the sci-fi component, and you’d get to ride horses and be in the middle of nowhere — so Cowboys & Aliens II.

This interview took place before “Petals on the Wind” premiered on the Lifetime channel on May 26. You can catch the film next on Saturday, May 31 at 7 p.m. PT/ET on the Lifetime channel. For more air dates, click here.
